⯌ backtagging 100% cool with this! I run on the slower side, especially through the week. Backtags are a must for me and I will gladly backtag into infinity. But if you feel something's getting too stale, I never mind dropping or handwaving details as preferred in order to move on to the next scene, etc.

⯌ fourthwalling If the opportunity ever did arise for some reason, I'm cool with it, although anything too zany might require some discussion in advance. Konstantin's life is so wild now that he'd probably take it better than some.... "this might as well happen"

⯌ threadhopping If all parties involved are cool with it, I don't mind at all.
in-character
⯌ physical contact / affection All good oocly, but his ic reactions will be situational. Typically, he's amiable and openly affectionate in general, but prone to shirking back somewhat if people start getting too close afterwards β€” especially given his current alien situation.

⯌ romance / flirting / sexual content I'm definitely open to exploring things like this (and all of the inevitable angsts involved, etc.) He'd be Extremely Nervous to the thought of anything serious, and it would inevitably take a lot of time and care. On the surface-level, Konstantin can be a friendly flirt just in general β€” often as a way of interacting with people and even a part of his public image and role (he's regarded as a Hero of the people, he's a commander and a cosmonaut, etc.) but it's also something of a defensive mechanism for him as well and he tends to default to a flirtatious, charming persona when in a new environment. He's also prone to utilising his charm to his advantage, when needed.

⯌ physical violence This is totally fine, with some discussion likely needed for anything too intense! In-game, the alien inhabiting Konstantin's body will no longer have the ability to regenerate and heal injuries to him, or itself. It's also worth noting that while the alien itself can withstand some damage and is capable of dealing out some pretty heavy damage of its own, it could actually be extremely easy to harm. It's a squishy slimy thing made for quick, easy kills, not prolonged combat β€” and the game setting will leave it weakened on a regular basis, as it can't handle the cold well. It's also extremely sensitive to things like bright lights and other such intense stimuli, which can cause it agitation and even pain. It's also much weaker in sunlight, needing damp, dark conditions.

⯌ use of powers All good, (assuming that something would still work with the game nerfing in place, of course). Characters who still have any capacity to sense what's going on with him are also certainly welcome to do so β€” whether on a mental level or a biological one. The alien is a literal organism that lives inside of his guts, so if someone could still sense something like that here,,,, go right ahead,,,,

the cosmonaut
Beloved and reliable, a Hero of the Soviet Union, Commanding Officer Konstantin Sergeyevich Veshnyakov is one of two cosmonauts aboard the Orbit-4 during an orbital research mission in the year 1983. When something horrific interferes and the spacecraft crashes upon re-entry, he is the only survivor β€” seemingly. In truth, Konstantin has unwillingly brought something back with him to Earth. Something that chose his body to make its "spacesuit" while it tries to survive in this new, foreign world.

While the public is told that the two cosmonauts are safely recovering in a rehabilitation complex, truthfully Konstantin is brought to an isolated military research facility, from which he plans to escape in order to reunite with his mother and retrieve his son from an orphanage. However, there are nefarious plans afoot to try and utilise the cosmonaut and his alien sputnik as a weapon of war.

Konstantin himself embodies the concept of the New Soviet Man. He is the posterchild of The Ideal: athletic, handsome, healthy, disciplined, intelligent, a proud Communist, a Commander and a cosmonaut β€” and a lingering representation of this concept that, by his time, was beginning to be dissolved. "Loved by women and children", he is affable, well-spoken, and appropriately charming: playfully flirtatious or reliably serious when he needs to be. His reputation is his livelihood and identity alike, and he covers up the less desirable parts of himself and his past well β€” until, of course, everything comes (quite literally) crashing down. Now the once-proud cosmonaut is a fallen hero, one who feels his horrific fate as the alien's chosen host is a justifiable punishment, and who will stop at nothing to help the one who needs him the most β€” his son, Aleksei "Lyosha" Konstantinovich Romanov.

cw: mention of suicide
In the process of escaping from the facility, Konstantin manages to forcefully expel the creature from his body by injecting himself with a concoction that mimics the symptoms of a disease. However, the longer they stay apart, the sicker he becomes, solidifying the concept that they are truly "bonded" and can not survive without one another. The alien, who has been severely wounded by the military, returns to Konstantin's body, where both of them can slowly start the process of healing. However, when more of the military's trucks begin approaching, Konstantin realises he can neither escape being recaptured nor ever be freed from the creature, and so he shoots and kills himself in the abdomen β€” also killing the alien.

From there, he wakes up in a snowy landscape that isn't the world he just came from β€” somehow still alive, wounded, but healed to the point the wounds aren't fatal.
the alien
biology
The alien that lives inside of Konstantin chose him because it could sense that the other member aboard the Orbit-4 had a terminal illness, and that Konstantin was therefore the better host. Very quickly, it succeeded in "establishing a bond" with Konstantin, such that attempts to remove the alien from his body cause his vitals to deteriorate rapidly; he will die without it, and it will die without him.

Essentially, Konstantin functions as a "spacesuit" for the creature "against a hostile world". Whether its contact with the Orbit-4 and subsequent landing on Earth was intentional or a mistake (most likely the latter), the creature must use him as a safe home in which to incubate, grow stronger, and learn more about its new environment.

While incubating, the creature takes up 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) and appears as a simple worm or snakelike creature. It stays inside of him for the most part, emerging only at night to feed, slithering up out of his mouth. When it needs to exit his body, it releases a toxin that causes a seizure-like reaction in its host, ultimately relaxing Konstantin's muscles by force and knocking him out. It also produces a membrane so that it doesn't harm his esophagus and throat when entering or exiting them.

^ the creature's size when inside of his stomach.... Big Worm,

Though the creature is much smaller when inside of Konstantin's body, it can expand from its simple, wormlike, tubular form to 1.5 meters in length, once it emerges from its host and ingests oxygen. Once outside of him, it shifts into something more detailed, with long, slender arms which it uses to pull itself around with, and the rest of its body forming a long tail, sometimes with little vestigial back legs that tend to drag the ground or stay pressed to its body. Its more intricate state appears like some amalgamation of creatures: a hooded head like a cobra, a cluster of eyes like a spider, a tail that exudes slime like a slug, a mouth lined with sharp little teeth and held like a sucker (much like a lamprey), though they extend longer when the creature attacks. It is only capable of residing outside of him for about an hour, and after feeding or exploring, shrinks back down and returns to Konstantin's body to sleep and incubate in his stomach.

In all aspects, the creature is incredibly sensitive to the environment outside of it. Its body is soft, squishy, and weak, with a poor resistance to the sunlight. Any abrasive external stimuli such as bright lights, flashing, etc. can cause it discomfort and even pain. Its sensitivity also means, however, that it shows an incredible capacity for adaptability, both mentally and physically.

^ the alien once it has inhaled oxygen and temporarily grown from its small and simple snakelike state to something bigger and more complex

^ another of the alien.... crawling its way to go kill and eat someone

GAME NERFING: The alien's extremely sensitive body will be weakened to the atmosphere itself; it's unable to survive well in extreme temperatures and will be very averse to the cold and snow of Milton. Therefore, it will be spending more time inside of Konstantin's body and out of the cold, not emerging from him nightly, but only sparingly. Aurora nights will also be especially damaging to it, given its extreme sensitivity to lights, sounds, etc. By the end of his canon, the alien had also matured enough that it could shapeshift into a more developed state when needed, with fully-formed arms and legs to suit its current environment where it was being treated like a weapon. In Singillatim which presents an entirely new environment (with entirely new survival needs), it will remain more "underdeveloped" and larval both inside and outside of him, conserving its weakened energy and preferring to stay within its host most of the time.
diet & feeding
The alien essentially feeds on cortisol β€” a hormone produced in response to stress and fear. For this reason, it's important that it reveal itself to its victims in order to trigger a release of terror. It stalks and frightens victims just long enough for the hormone to be released into their bloodstream, before going in for a very quick and violent kill, often ripping into the heads / brains of its victims. From there, it feeds on their blood.

While the creature can feed on any animal that produces cortisol, its condition (and therefore Konstantin's) is much more stabilised after feeding from humans.

GAME NERFING: While the alien will still need to feed on cortisol, it will not have routine access to humans. Due to the cold setting weakening it and its inability to heal itself when wounded causing the alien to stay inside of Konstantin more, it will not be regularly eating on its own. He will often have to keep it fed himself, feeding from animals (their brains / blood...) This means that he (and it) will be consistently weaker and sicker, as Konstantin will refuse to feed from any humans (although an NPC or two miiight get munched along the way by the alien itself here or there, temporarily helping it stabilise for a bit.)
bond with host
The alien's relationship to Konstantin is symbiotic. They cannot survive without one another, and mutually benefit each other. As mentioned, Konstantin serves as its literal home and safe environment on a foreign planet, and a means through which the alien is able to learn and adapt. In return, it gives him a "phenomenal capacity for regeneration", meaning that Konstantin can physically heal from even severe wounds at a rapid pace, as long as the creature is within him. His physical performance has also improved even further, making him at the prime of his human capacity.

The creature and Konstantin are also tied in deeper ways. While he's generally unconscious while it's outside of his body, when it returns to him and he wakes later, he has every memory of its experience in minute detail. An unexpected effect is also that the creature retains some memory or sensation of Konstantin's hormonal fluctuations, in the form of being receptive / less hostile / controllable by those he has felt especial fondness to or has strong positive feelings towards, more aggressive or agitated towards those who have frightened or upset him, etc. It also seems to have affection (whether genuine or a mimicry) for the things he does, such as certain items that mean something to its host.

^ the alien hugging the little doll that brought Konstantin comfort up in space

GAME NERFING: In Singillatim, the alien will function almost exclusively as a parasite rather than a symbiote. While still a part of his body / requiring his body for survival, it will provide no benefits in return. It will be unable to regenerate / heal him (or itself) if wounded, and will have no benefits on his physical state at all. The "mental link" between them will also be severed completely, meaning that Konstantin will be unable to access any memories from the creature, including any of the times it exits his body. Due to its sensitivity of his hormone levels on a biological level, it will still be reactive to his emotions and "mimic" them β€” becoming agitated when he is, developing "attachments" for things he has positive hormonal fluctuations towards, etc. β€” but this will purely be from a place that's physiological, with no mental connection at all.

For reference, while Konstantin's introspection will frequently feature themes of his situation, I will absolutely not be just throwing out the gnarlier parts of this character / the alien wouldn't make an appearance without it being planned in advance / etc.

If you prefer to opt out of interactions with this character, please comment below! Feel free to specify certain things you might want to opt out of (such as his alien making an appearance or coming up in discussion), or if you'd prefer to avoid this character altogether.

detailed warnings
πŸ’« sci-fi horror This canon is a science fiction horror film. It deals with themes of space exploration Gone Wrong, the idea that humans aren't alone in the universe, etc.

πŸ’« parasitic / symbiotic / body horror The nature of the alien that Konstantin is host to is technically symbiotic, but the way it functions / lives inside of him has very parasitic associations. It is a physical being that occupies his body (essentially this snakelike / wormlike creature) and the idea of that can be extremely disturbing. This also comes with related warnings such as: loss of autonomy, body image issues, etc.

πŸ’« gestation / incubation horror The alien entity is very young / infantile, and utilies Konstantin's stomach as its nest when in its larval form.

πŸ’« emeto Kostya comes with a lot of nausea / vomiting (often blood) / general emeto associations as a result of the alien's residence inside of his gut. The alien also exits and re-enters Konstantin through his mouth, and this is just as horrific as it sounds. Mercifully, he is (usually, but not always...) knocked out during this process, though he does retain most memory of everything that transpired when the alien returns to him and he later regains consciousness.

πŸ’« seizure associations Just prior to the alien leaving Konstantin's body to feed, it causes a seizure-like reaction in him which ultimately weakens all of his muscles and knocks him out.

πŸ’« possession associations When in seizure, the alien causes Konstantin's body to act in a way that may be associated with demonic possession β€” contorting, moving erratically, throwing itself around, etc. The pupils of his eyes also swell, turning his eyes pitch black when the alien is awake, in a way that looks very demonic.

πŸ’« violence / gore The manner in which the alien feeds is extremely violent and gory. It generally aims for its victim's head so that it can feed from the brain, and this usually involves breaking through the victim's skull.

πŸ’« cannibalism associations Konstantin doesn't technically eat humans, but the alien is nourished by a hormone secreted by living beings, and while it can survive off other species of animals, its preference (as well as the meal that stabilises Kostya's condition the most successfully) is... human animals :) While it essentially feeds off of their blood to get this hormone, it obtains this by ripping into its victim's brains.

πŸ’« experimentation / weaponisation While kept in custody at a research facility against his will, Konstantin is treated as a lab rat for the ultimate purpose of being used as a weapon by the military.

πŸ’« themes of child abandonment Konstantin himself comes with strong "abandoned by my father" themes, as well as guilt over unknowingly (to some degree) abandoning his own child. This theme becomes his driving force to escape the research facility in which he's being contained. He also views his possession by the creature as a "punishment" for abandoning his son.

πŸ’« suicide (SPOILERS FOR MOVIE ENDING) Konstantin ultimately shoots himself in the abdomen to end both his and the alien's lives.
